CORRECT DIAGNOSIS IS KEY TO RESOLVING ACHILLES TENDON PAIN
Achilles Tendon pain is one of the most common forms of heel pain alongside Plantar Fasciitis. The achilles is located at the back of the foot leading into the calf muscle. There are 3 different stages of achilles tendon pain:
Acute Achilles Tendon Pain
- Onset within last 6 weeks
If this is the first instance of achilles tendon pain, we label this as the acute stage of a tendon problem. Generally the heel is tender to touch and this is due to a rapid change in activity such as increase of mileage, frequency or duration. This can be located at the insertion of the tendon or in the mid portion of the tendon. Our physiotherapists will guide you on the specific treatment for each of these locations.
Degenerative Achilles Tendon Pain
- Recurrent issue
Tendon issues are liable to reoccur and continue to plague athletes and general public alike. With this you may find stiffness of your achilles in the morning and potential weaknesses throughout the whole limb from ankle, knee and/or hip. Our specialist physiotherapists will assess your whole leg strength and provide a progressive exercise regime to improve your heel pain.
Acute on Degenerative Achilles Tendon Pain
- Flare up of a recurrent issue
Sometimes you can develop an acute flare up of a degenerative tendon. This can happen commonly if a weakness in the lower limb hasn't been identified. This is the reason a specific progressive home exercise programme of the correct exercises is needed. Youtube videos are ok, but you may be missing out on some crucial exercises to rid your achilles heel pain
